Why I couldn't use the image file normally after mounting it in a virtual CD-ROM drive?

It commonly happens on the game CDs, for some game manufactures will add a special protection technology in a game CD. In a "correct settings" environment, Alcohol series software can emulate most of the CD's, with or without protection. Therefore, we suggest you to try different settings to emulate the hardware requirement for the CD to ensure the image file to be run normally.

Why I couldn't add my virtual CD-ROM drives up to 31?

For the operation system like Windows, the available names for the drives are set from A to Z; therefore, there can be up most 26 peripherals, including your disk drive and CD-ROM drive, in your PC. Normally, the system, however, has assigned A and B to the floppy disk, in addition, the virtual CD-ROM drive requires at least one hard drive ©. Thus, the available names to be assigned is from D to Z. Adding an extra hard drive or having partitions on your existing hard drive will use some of the available names that can be assigned to the virtual CD-ROM drive. Hence, only if there is only one HDD with no partition and no CD-ROM drive in your PC, you can increase the current drives to 23 virtual CD-ROM drives in total. In addition, in Windows 2000 system, you will be able to add up to 31 CD-ROM drives in your PC, because you are allowed to specify the drive for special use.

The virtual CD-ROM drive was OK at first, but somehow it couldn't read the data on the disc after mounting an image file. Even though I changed to another image file afterwards, it still didn't work. Why did that happen? (It couldn't read the data in that virtual CD-ROM drive in File Explorer.)

It may be the problem in mounting, or may be the process of making the image file was unsuccessful but not deleting the image file. To solve the problem, please restart your PC.

Why some games, after installation, can enter the play screen normally when using CD-ROM drive, but fail to enter the screen when using a virtual CD-ROM drive?

Some games will check if the name of the drive where you the CD located is the same as the one where you installed the game. To solve the problem, just change the name of the drive to the one where you installed the game. For the CD-ROM drive, you can change it to an unused name.

The recording failed with a "Buffer Under-run" message. Why did it happen? What does "Buffer Under-run" mean?

If the data in the data buffer is recorded into a blank disc and other data to be recorded is not sent to the data buffer, "Buffer Under-run" message will be displayed because there is no data for the recorder to burn.

How long can the data on a recorded CD be kept?

Most discs can be in good shape for more than one or two decades if they are maintained well. Some CD manufacturers even declare that their products can preserve data for up to one century. Though there are years of life for most CDs, their life will be shortened if you do not maintain them well.

The specification of my recorder says it supports up to 8X speed. Why I can only record at 4X speed?

To record at the highest speed supported by a recorder, the disc you are using must be compatible with that speed. If your disc supports up to 4X instead of 8X speed, the situation you mentioned will happen.

How long dose it take to burn one CD?

It depends on the amount of data you are burning, the speed of the recorder, and the speed supported by the disc. Assuming that the disc supports the highest speed of the recorder, it takes about 74 minutes to record data of 650 Mbytes at 1X speed. The time spent on closing one disc is about 1 or 2 minutes. That's the time needed for burning one CD. You may get the time required according to the speed of your own recorder. 1X stands for 150 kbps, 2X is 300 Kbps, and so on.

How do I change the letter of the drive on Windows 95/Windows 98/Windows ME?

You can follow the below procedures to change the letter of the drive.
· First, open the control panel.
· Select the system icon on the control panel.
· Select device manager.

When making an image file, it showed a message indicating the process was failed. Why did that happen?

For such problem, there might be two situations:
· the first situation is that the source disc is with protection technology; in this case, just check the checkbox next to "Skip Reading Errors" and "RAW Mode + Sub-Channel Information" and then you can make your image file successfully;
· another situation is there might be scratches or damages on the source disc, although not protected. In this case, just check off the checkbox next to "Skip Reading Errors", if there is still error message, it means that your disc is damaged.

Why there was a message indicating the disc was not formatted when I mounted a DVD image file by using Alcohol series software?

Normally, when use Alcohol series software as a virtual DVD drive, the most common errors you might encounter are a message indicating the disc in unformatted, or the CD-ROM disappears from the CD-ROM Management window when mounting a DVD image file to a virtual CD-ROM drive. It is because the Windows system cannot manage the same DVD disc simultaneously. Once you complete the process of making the image file, you might encounter these problems if you mount the DVD image file without removing the DVD from the DVD drive first. The work ground is to remove the DVD from the DVD drive and reboot the system. (The problem only occurs on Windows 98/Me, if yours is Windows 2000, it should be OK.)

Why does it take the CD-ROM drive more than 3 minutes to activate recording when I use Alcohol series software Image Maker to make a disc image file?

We suggest that you start the CD-ROM drive in PIO mode to read. It is a common problem on many old CD-ROM drives. The problem lies in the DMA mode of the CD-ROM drive. If you don't want to use PIO mode, then you can also upgrade the firmware, and the problem will be solved. To opt to PIO or DMA mode, under Windows 2000 or XP system, you can enter the Control Panel, and click System -> Hardware -> Device Manager ->IDE ATA/ATAIP Controller to make your settings.

How do I make sure about which game CD with protective measure can be emulated and recorded by using Alcohol series software?

You can inquire the database to search which game CD with protective measure can be emulated by using Alcohol series software program. As to the question whether it can be recorded into a CD disc, it depends on the support of your CD recorder. You may explore our official website for more information about the support of the CD recorders.

Is Alcohol series software compatible with DirectCD?

Yes. However, sometimes DirectCD will transmit some unnecessary instructions to interfere the action of Alcohol series software, especially in the burn process. The solution is to select Winaspi interface to operate Alcohol series software (it can be done in Properties settings) or update to Alcohol series software later version to prevent such problem.

I don't have a burner. Do I need to buy a burner to record a CD?

If you do not have a burner, you can backup the CD on HDD! Alcohol series software can operate CD emulation normally without a burner!
However, it is impossible to change your CD-ROM drive to being a burner and to record data on a blank CD!

Can Alcohol series software copy DVD-video with css?

Although we have such technology to do so, we are worried about the forbidden requirement of relevant laws to add this function; therefore, this function has not provided in the software. And if you dump this kind of DVD-video, you will get error message as below:
· 05/6F/00-05/6F/05--About description of these sense key, please look up MMC3 SSF8090. It is possible that the DVD you tried to copy was a DVD that was protected with CSS copy protection, Alcohol can not circumnavigate this protection as it is against the law.

Why does any image file having been patched by BetaBloker, even successfully has been loaded in Alcohol series software, but cannot be operational?

BetaBloker, like Alcohol series software plus EFM correction function in the recording process, which makes the recorded data as similar as the original one. However, to achieve this purpose, it will make a minor change on the original data before transferring to the burner. Theoretically, after recording, the changed data will turn out bad blocks, but it will be corrected due to the EFM function, then the theoretical assuming bad blocks will not realize. Therefore, the data after the processing of BetaBloker will not change the good blocks to bad; granted, it will result in errors during emulation.
